According to Beam, Vanilla Ice — "blown away" at the opportunity to be a part of such a great cause — will attend the event for several hours and hopes to introduce himself, take photos, and engage with the community. “Were going to try to get as many people to come in here, purchase some food and purchase some drinks so that we’re able to maximize how much were able to donate to Little Smiles,” Beam said, noting the restaurant’s fundraising goal of $20,000. Little Smiles Founder Chip Donohue and his family, among others with the charity, will attend the event, Beam tells me, in hopes of sharing the nonprofit's story and connecting with the local community.

Bonjean slammed the trial as “blasphemously unfair,” claiming the prosecution also relied on “bad act evidence,” similar to the New York trial which saw three women testify before the jury with allegations that weren’t connected to the case being tried. LA Judge Lisa Lench later denied Weinstein’s request for a new trial as the former Hollywood producer maintained his innocence. With the New York case overturned on Thursday, Bonjean said her team is considering making a new plea to review the California conviction. Jennifer Bonjean, one of attorneys representing the disgraced Hollywood mogul, claimed that Weinstein did not get a fair trial in the Los Angeles case in 2023 in part because the jury believed he was fairly convicted in New York when he was sentenced to 23 years in New York 2020.

How the Vanilla Ice Little Smiles event came to be

toroidal propellers turn your drones + boats into noiseless machines

new boat prop design

Specifically, tip cavitation and vortices have been eliminated or significantly reduced, transforming your entire boating experience,’ explains the company. Sharrow is already selling its looped props, CNC machined to fit a wide range of common outboard motors from most major manufacturers. The drawback here is price; they cost US$4,999 a pop regardless of which model, where a regular propeller might go for closer to US$500. Moving from water to air, a team of researchers at MIT Lincoln Laboratory proposed a toroidal propeller prototype among the 2022 winners of the R&D 100 awards.

Significant Speed Increase at Mid-Range RPMs

All that to say, if you’re trying to get the most speed possible out of your boat/engine combo, you may want to discuss with your dealer the best propeller option relative to your situation. If you’re new to boating, you may not have expectations around what type of performance you should get out of your engine/propeller combo. That said, there are numerous variables behind which prop is right for your boat. The angle at which those blades are placed relative to the hub is called pitch.

Featured Video: Airthre’s Cabin Oxygen Generator

If you’re looking for more speed or want to explore different performance options, talk to your dealer about shopping for different propellers. The testing showed the Sharrow put the boat on plane quicker, was faster at all RPM settings, was more fuel efficient at all RPM settings, produced the highest top speed, and significantly cut prop noise and vibration. The Sharrow Propeller was invented by engineer Gregory Sharrow and developed by his company, Sharrow Engineering LLC, a Philadelphia-based nautical and aeronautical design firm.

In looking at Sharrow Marine's design, advantages included drastically reduced outboard noise and faster, more efficient on-water performance. The new Sharrow CX incorporates the company's looped design into a contra-rotating propeller set. The sculptural new prop doubles up on blades with the promise of bringing Sharrow's efficiency-boosting, noise-cutting benefits to the already efficient world of contra-rotating outboards and sterndrives from top names like Volvo and Mercury.

Engines in different horsepower ranges will often require different sizes from one to another, as the propeller shafts and lower units vary in size. There are so many fluctuations and options that you could literally make the same exact boat faster just by adding a different propeller. The more pitch you are trying to turn, the more torque is required from the engine. I’ve got some tips on how to choose the correct propeller so that you can make an educated decision before launching the boat. All ACME props are designed, machined, and delivered from right here in the Midwest.

Sharrow says they have the interesting effect of vastly reducing a boat's tendency to pitch backward as it accelerates; instead, the entire boat rises out of the water while staying much more level. On top of all this, the effect on noise is absolutely profound, as you can see in the video below. "We came up with this initial concept of using a toroidal shape, this annular wing shape, to hopefully make a quieter propeller," Sebastian continues.

Custom Props for Marketing & Advertising

The Marine Power Innovation (MPI) awards recognizes those manufacturers who advance the state-of-the-art in marine propulsion and, in so doing, change the recreational boating experience for the better. "You can improve your energy efficiency and reduce your underwater noise with the same kind of things." The high- and low-pressure regions meet along the edge of the loop, distributing the vortices more widely so that they dissipate faster and therefore more quietly. When a blade propeller spins in the air (like the one on the left in the above image), it generates regions of high and low pressure that meet at the blade's tip to create a vortex. In the age of the energy transition, these things must also be of extreme interest to anyone making electrified boats, where a 20% boost in range from a five-grand accessory would be an absolute no-brainer. Check out a fairly concise presentation from Sharrow in the video below.

You generally want to find the comfort zone for props on your specific boat. Think of this as a 10-speed bike and you’re going downhill on the highest gear. Once the boat is loaded with people and gear, this method typically provides good all-around performance. Some boaters may have different performance goals such as better hole shot or faster top-end speed, which will require a change in the pitch and diameter. If you’re new to boating or don’t have a strong opinion on the type of speed and performance you’re getting out of the ride, then you might have the dealer recommend a prop or roll with what the boat manufacturer provides.

Design Town USA™ - LA's PrintshopCommercial Print & Design Services & Solutions

Rather than conventional blades, this machined prop has what appears to be a more-or-less continuous ribbon of steel or aluminum wrapping around a central hub. Strategies with such synergy include reshaping bows and hulls, maintaining a clean hull and undamaged propellers, and adding extra structures to decrease cavitation around the propeller. Some of those options are operational, and some involve retrofitting the ship.

The pitch of the propeller will dictate how far it moves with each thrust. "We have been actively designing propellers of 10 meters in diameter for many years and working collaboratively with shipping-container companies around the world to apply the technology for container ships," Sharrow said. Testing led by the company BoatTEST found that the Sharrow Propeller was up to 30% more efficient than a standard blade propeller.

Like with anything, if you take care of your propeller, it should last the lifetime of your boat. Props do not have an expiration date as long as they aren’t damaged from impacts with foreign objects. Aluminum is a softer and less expensive metal, so these props are usually more budget-friendly.

Propeller noise can be somewhat addressed by placing rings of acoustic treatment around the circumference of a prop's path, which can also act as prop guards from a safety perspective. But these add parasitic mass, reducing battery life, and they can also catch the wind in outdoor situations, making the drone work harder to stay stable. The performance of the current propeller as well as the interaction between the propeller and hull is analysed by using computational fluid design (CFD). Sharrow Marine’s propeller is without question the most unique boat prop we’ve seen to date. Until we can sea trial one of these new Sharrow Propellers for ourselves we won’t know for sure whether the claims being made for it are as game changing as they seem. Although we have every confidence in boattest.com’s findings, they were only performed on one boat, and unlike Motor Boat & Yachting’s sea trials, its tests are paid for by the manufacturer.

The three-bedroom home was purchased at an auction just five years ago for about $165,000. Within that time, a significant amount of land has been swept away by the elements leaving the farmhouse in danger of crumbling into the beach below, according to the outlet. The main entry features a transom-topped version painted Benjamin Moore’s Hale Navy.

The farmhouse style is diverse and based on homes built in farming communities across North America. Farmhouse plans come in one- and two-story layouts and typically include front and back porches, or a wraparound porch that hugs multiple corners. Traditional interiors feature family gathering areas, grouped bedrooms, formal front rooms, and country kitchens, but many of today's farmhouses are designed with open layouts and split bedrooms. I wanted to create a depth that made the home feel like it had been here for a while,” says architect Clare Walton, who designed the kitchen cabinets, trimwork and complex ceiling to achieve that effect. Proctor was convicted and hanged for witchcraft during the Salem Witch Trials.

B. Williams and an aged iron lantern from Visual Comfort & Co. convey a modern farmhouse vibe. A modern farmhouse in Arcadia takes on an air of sophistication, thanks to clean lines and sleek, mix of stone and stucco. Amazingly, future homeowners could mail order all the pieces they needed for a basic farmhouse.

The structures were based on the classic colonial farmhouse's rectangular design and were often two-stories tall. Even better, they could easily be added on to with wings out the side or rear of the home to accommodate new family members or the next generation of families. Large long porches that beautifully connected the outdoors to the indoors was a standard feature that provided the residents with a place to relax in the shade. The original exterior colors for these houses were relatively limited and premixed in a choice of white, light green, pale yellow, light blue, and a few dark colors, notably red. When it comes to contemporary home trends, farmhouse style is a huge buzz word. But you may be surprised to learn that the roots of farmhouse architecture have humble beginnings in the modest rural houses built by American pioneers throughout the 1700s and 1800s.

The location of the status codes, either as the first or last character, allows the city of assignment to be easily identified because representatives of certain countries are limited to travel in a certain radius from their base. The status codes used until 2007 were "C" for Foreign Consul; "D" for Diplomat; "S" for Non-Diplomatic Staff; and "A" for the OAS. The rights of the driver and car under diplomatic immunity are defined by this status code. Additionally, it evokes the iconic “Red Cars,” trolley cars that transported people from downtown Los Angeles to Venice Beach in the mid-20th century. When a person buys a vehicle from a dealer, the dealer is typically authorized to issue a temporary registration to allow the buyer to drive the vehicle until the government agency in charge of vehicle registration processes the registration forms. The country codes are unique to each particular country, but do not correlate to ISO Country Codes or other standards format.

Going Green? Cute License Plate Ideas for Electric Vehicles

This is an exception to the general rule in the U.S. that license plates are issued by states, and not the federal government. However, prior to the 1980s, diplomatic plates were issued by states, with New York issuing the most, followed by the District of Columbia. Devised for a straightforward installation, our custom car plates are made right here in the USA of a durable aluminum and feature several mounting holes. At 12 by 6 inches, the plates are a regular size and are standardized to fit most license plate frames. We print your creative design on the face of the plate; the vibrant color will retain, even in harsh sunlight, for up to 2 years.

Latest California

From 1984 until August 28, 2007, all plates issued followed the pattern of a letter identifying the status of the owner, followed by the two-letter country code, followed by a random three or four-digit number (S AB 1234). For member countries of the Organization of American States (OAS), a subset of that numbering pattern was allotted to vehicles based at those countries' missions to the OAS. Plates issued to cars based at the headquarters of the United Nations in New York City were issued in the reverse format, with the three or four-digit number first, followed by the two-letter country code, followed by the status code (1234 AB S). The U.S. state of California first required its residents to register their motor vehicles in 1905.

In this format, the ABC123 portion of the serial progresses from AAA000 to ZZZ999, before the leading digit advances by one and the progression begins again. All letters are used, although I, O and Q are only used as the second letter (third digit). Series 1SWD000 through 1TZZ999 and 1WAA000 through 1YZZ999 have not been issued, while others have been reserved for non-passenger and optional plates, such as 1ZZA through 1ZZZ and 3ZZA through 3ZZG for Livery plates, and 1UAA through 1VZZ for Lake Tahoe, Yosemite and Coastal Protection ("Whale Tail") plates.

States typically have rules about who is eligible and how the plates may be used, and may impose record keeping and audit requirements. Because of the ubiquitousness of license plates, special plates – or even regular ones – can raise controversy. For instance, George Maynard did not like the state motto on his New Hampshire license plate, "Live free or die", because he and his wife felt it repugnant to their beliefs as Jehovah's Witnesses and chose to cover it with tape. The United States Supreme Court ruled in Wooley v. Maynard, 430 U.S. 705 (1977), that since one is compelled to have a license plate on one's vehicle, they are permitted not to have to show a message from the state to which they have a moral objection, and overturned his conviction. Some jurisdictions allow for some or all of their specialty plates to also be vanity plates, usually for an additional fee on top of the cost of the plate. Vehicles are purchased at a discount on Oʻahu compared to the neighboring islands where there is usually only one dealer per vehicle make.

According to Coleman — who opened the property along with co-founder Michael Clinton, director of guest experience Destinee Sales and creative director Sophea Samreth — the cost totaled a little more than a million dollars. The price included renovations from electrical systems to plumbing, alongside the addition of a 1,200-square-foot roof deck with sweeping ocean views. There are four individual guest accommodations, including a studio, a one-bedroom, a two-bedroom and a three-bedroom — all of which offer an individual story to tell. Aside from being visually aesthetic — and perhaps even the holy grail to drivers who have been forced to sit in agonizingly long lines at the DMV — supporters laud the plates’ safety mechanisms. A federal judge rules that DMV criteria for deciding which personalized plates to print violate free speech. You can get Porsche Club of America plates in several different states, featuring version of the PCA logo.

Using a screwdriver to nail the license plate into the license-plate mount will do the job for you. We recommend purchasing our inexpensive license plate frame ToughShield Kit to further protect your plate from the elements. During research, The Redline Venice Hotel also worked alongside the descendants of Reese and his history-making cousin Irving Tabor. Known as “The Wizard,” Reese migrated from New Orleans to Venice in 1905 and became an esteemed inventor, designer and businessman known for his vibrant decorations around the area.

Because the outlying counties issue plates starting with M (Maui County), K (Kauaʻi), or H (Big Island of Hawaiʻi), the source of the vehicle can be identified. In 1956, U.S. states and Canadian provinces came to an agreement with the Automobile Manufacturers Association that fixed the size of all passenger vehicle plates at 6 by 12 inches (150 by 300 mm), with mounting holes spaced 7 inches (180 mm), although the dimensions may vary slightly by jurisdiction. In North America, only Saint Pierre and Miquelon (a French overseas territory) has not adopted these standards, as they use French/European standards instead (although the Northwest Territories has a plate shaped like a polar bear that is cut out of a standard rectangular plate). Smaller-sized plates are used for motorcycles and, in some jurisdictions, mopeds and certain types of trailers and construction equipment. Vermont license plates have frequently featured a green and white color scheme, while Alaska has preferred yellow and blue.

Technology Designed for Addiction

addictive design

A controversial American scientist named Harry Harlow studied the nature of learning using monkeys and putting mechanical puzzles for them to solve. He noted that, even after compensation for the sampling group had ceased, the monkeys continued to perform previously necessary tasks, without being asked to do so. The move widens a preliminary investigation conducted in recent months into whether TikTok, owned by the Chinese company ByteDance, violated a new European law, the Digital Services Act, which requires large social media companies to stop the spread of harmful material.

What are some common mistakes businesses make when trying to implement humane design?

The design of an interface can significantly impact how users interact with it. This is because the design of an interface can influence our emotions and behaviors. The terms UI and UX are often used interchangeably, but there is a distinction between the two. UI design focuses on the visual elements of an interface, such as how it looks and feels. On the other hand, UX design is concerned with how easy it is to use an interface and how efficient it is at doing what it’s supposed to do. The primary motivation of all online platforms is to keep users on the platform and extend the amount of time they spend on the platform.

Social media addiction bill fails in California Legislature

What that will mean is that at any moment in time you'll have a device that will allow you to escape the imperfect real world, and you'll be able to go to a perfect virtual world. You can be where you are right now, or you can go to a beach in Greece, which might sound more appealing. You can be where you are right now, or you can interact with a beautiful person.

How Product Developers Keep Our Eyeballs Glued to Their Apps

Remember to keep things simple and safe, and you will be on your way to creating a truly humane design. With rapidly growing technology, we are exposed to massive amounts of information and start to feel like drowning in a pool filled with information. Thus, digital product companies need to do something to shine out and draw more attention, because day by day attention and time become an increasingly scarce resource. Accordingly user experience and interface designers started to focus more on habit building tactics while designing a digital product. Tech companies started to compete with each other, in terms of finding the best solution for hooking users into their platforms.

— There are different divisions of the brain and many other areas necessary to fully understand the brain, but for the sake of this article, we are taking on the following simplified summary so that we can continue our discussion (sorry psychologists). Our relationship with technology is becoming increasingly characterized by dependency, regret, and loss of control. Understand the world with a daily explainer plus the most compelling stories of the day.

Designers should aim to create products that are easy to use and understand, and that meet the user's needs. One of the key principles of humane design is simplicity. They should not pose any risks or dangers to the user's health or wellbeing. When incorporating humane design principles into your work, it is important to keep the user in mind at all times. Consider their needs and how you can make their experience using your product or service as positive as possible.

addictive design

days that rocked USC: How a derailed commencement brought ‘complete disaster’

When those chemicals are released in large enough quantities they induce bodily feelings of anxiety including sweaty palms, queasy feelings, and, in the extreme, fear. Most likely when it comes to issues such as FOMO or nomophobia the chemicals increasingly make us feel as though we are missing out on something important and once we check in we feel better … until the whole process begins again. A year later a comparable group unlocked their phones 50 times a day for 262 minutes or more than 5 minutes per unlock. I am currently collecting data on a similar group and fully expect those minutes to once again increase dramatically. Eager for clicks and views, tech platforms are always looking for new ways to use basic human instincts like shame, laziness and fear to their advantage.

An important theme that has emerged is that FA is both an individual problem as well as a collective problem that should be addressed on a societal level. Given the obesity trends and more recently the opioid epidemic, it can be argued that addiction is the number one public health problem in the United States. Although the exact contribution of accumbens DA in reward is still unclear, most researchers agree that it is involved in feeding behavior. For instance, original studies in the 1970's have shown that a lesion in the striatonigral DA pathway with 6-OH-dopamine provoked a profound aphagia and adipsia (66). This finding was later corroborated in DA-deficient mice that also became hypoactive, aphagic, and adipsic (67). Similarly, lever pressing for food pellets in animals increases DA release in the NAc (68–70), however, not during rat chow free-feeding (70, 71) suggesting that DA in the accumbens regulates instrumental learning.

Screen-Free For A Day, Teens Try Life Without Phones

Acetylcholine (ACh) is released by local interneurons that compromise less than 2% of neurons in the NAc (131, 132). They have an extensive axonal arborization and form synapses in the medium spiny output neuron (133). The idea that ACh opposes DA function in the striatum comes from research on Parkinson's disease (PD). It is known that anticholinergic (antimuscarinic) drugs were the first medications used in the treatment of PD antagonizing mainly M1 receptors (134, 135).

Although the Commission has not confirmed whether it plans to fine TikTok for failing to produce the risk assessment document on time as yet. The Hook model builds on the Habit Loop by including the concept of investment. The underlying premise behind this part of the Hook canvas is that people value things that they’ve contributed to more than things that they haven’t contributed to. It’s worth noting that many products of this nature derive revenue from advertising spend. Often the core purpose of the action is to get eyes on screens so that targeted advertisements can be served. The action is the minimum thing you’re looking for the person to do to engage with your product.

These behaviors are then tracked by algorithms that show users more content likely to keep them engaged. Surely, redesigning social media in this way would be a step in the right direction. Instead of platforms that addict users to outrageous, erroneous content, we could have platforms that help people find credible, accurate information.

Then again, the point of acknowledging such behavior as addictive is to realize it’s out of someone’s control. (Or, at the very least, it’s out of someone’s control to a significant degree—otherwise, it wouldn’t be addictive.) In other words, if something is addictive by design, it’s unreasonable to put the onus of overcoming addition solely on the addict. The professionals responsible for that addictive design also bear responsibility to redesign it in the best interest of the user. Adolescence is a time when the brain is particularly plastic, or prone to change. We should take advantage of plasticity to help teach kids healthy ways to self-manage their own use of, and feelings surrounding, smartphones.

The singer on the other hand was wonderful and had a beautiful voice. My expectation was there would be some mellow jazz playing while we were eating, I suppose the singer had to provide some entertainment on one of the other decks while the piano played upstairs. All in all an okay experience but the photo ads and descriptions are playing it up a bit. Again best part of the voyage was the view.

The weathe...r cooperated and we also had a beautiful sunset. All of the food was picture perfect and tasty but smaller portions than I expected and it was certainly the smallest maine lobster I have ever seen. The upstairs on the ship was set up like a very nice restaurant, white tablecloths and the wait staff were in black suits - very fancy. The wait staff was polite and as professional as could be but as far as I could tell there was only one waiter for the entire top section this made getting drinks a bit slow. The jazz music was mostly just piano and was too loud for the room the piano had a microphone set up and it seems like it could have been turned down a notch. I shouldn't have to strain to hear the person I'm eating with who it just across the table, the couple next to us made the same comment about the volume.

Time and location to be determined based on size of group. Minimum purchase of 20 photos per every 100 persons. Enjoy a delicious 5-course dinner featuring a light salad, Maine Lobster, Prime Tenderloin of Beef Dinner, and a freshly baked dessert. On Fridays, take an opportunity to watch the spectacular Waikiki fireworks.

Dive into history with reserved tickets to the Arizona Memorial and Battleship Missouri and tour Honolulu City with top-rated driver guide, all via a deluxe Royal Star motorcoach. If you want to take a break from the walking, shopping, and hotel hustle and bustle around Waikiki I suggest a sunset dinner cruise on the Star of Honolulu. Lines has decided to equip one of its LR1 product tankers with a combination system that both captures a portion of the CO2 emissions from the exhaust as well as acts as a SOx scrubber. Norwegian Cruise Line canceled its Caribbean trip mid voyage due to Covid-19, leaving travelers stuck at sea until the ship returns to New York.

Floods on Cruise Ships

The federal agency recommends that people avoid cruise travel if they are at increased risk of severe illness, regardless of vaccination status. Coronavirus hospitalizations in the state have also risen from about 1,200 patients two weeks ago to about 3,400 on Wednesday. But that is still less than one-fifth the number of hospitalizations reported in late August due to the delta wave. The CDC said 88 vessels are now either under investigation or observation, but it did not specify how many COVID-19 cases have been reported.

Matthew Branham, who was also on board, told The Washington Post, that "waves were hitting the boat so hard that it was like an earthquake experience, jarring you like a really rough roller coaster — even in the middle floor." As one of the first groups to arrive at the parking lot, Herold found her new car – which had less than 10,000 miles – with its airbag deployed, four inches of water in the car and the doors unlocked. Water damage and broken glass were left in the hallways and rooms following the storm. Videos shared online by vacationers show flooded hallways littered with glass and other debris, doors ripped off their hinges and downed pipes laying soaked on the floor. The Carnival Sunshine was returning to Charleston following a week-long trip in the Bahamas when it got caught in wild weather and rough seas over the Memorial Day weekend.

As Deck 8 is also a staterooms-only deck and the incident appears confined to Deck 7, it is possible a water pipe burst, causing the immediate flooding. Guests on the sailing have indicated that the incident happened on Deck 7 (Empress Deck) of the ship, but praised crew members for very quickly cleaning up the area, even in the middle of the night. With water gushing into their stateroom, while the video clearly shows hallways and floors so soaked that the water is pooling on top of the carpet. The poster also indicates that they lost power at one point in the midst of the flooding, though the hallway clearly has power. Carnival cruise passenger wakes up to a flooded cabin on a recent Carnival Radiance sailing and captures how the crew worked to resolve it.

Fortunately, crews are well-trained to mitigate such incidents and quickly repair and clean up areas to restore them to dryness with a minimum of disruption. Carpeting can be swiftly replaced, huge fans are used to circulate air and speed drying, and other restoration methods are used to quickly dry ships out and ensure a fantastic, non-flooded time for guests. This is not the first time a cruise ship has been inundated with unexpected water. On the maiden voyage of the world’s largest cruise ship, Royal Caribbean International’s Wonder of the Seas in March 2022, a sprinkler malfunction caused swift flooding on the Royal Promenade.

The length of the ship is being increased by 57 feet (17.4 meters) to a total of 1,119 feet (341 meters) resulting in an increase of 6,400 gross tons or a total of 141,900 gross tons. The ship will have 2,144 staterooms and among the new technologies and advanced systems will be two new desulfurization systems and five sets of advanced environmental protection systems. They worked with Fincantieri and the ship was based on a design developed for Carnival Corporation. Construction began on the second cruise ship in August 2022, with the timeline calling for the dock cycle to be shortened by eight months versus the first cruise ship. The new ship is scheduled to be floated in March 2025, undocked in March 2026, start sea trials in June 2026, and be delivered before the end of 2026. The ship's itinerary was not impacted, the liner wrote in a press release, and cruise-goers will reach Roatan's Mahogany Bay today on schedule.

While cruise ships do attempt to steer clear of bad weather, it is not always possible to completely avoid lengthy squall lines or large storm systems. This is particularly true in the case of Voyager of the Seas and Carnival Dream, both of which were heading back to Galveston at the time of the severe weather. Even in the midst of bad weather, however, cruise ships can change their orientation, adjust speed, deploy stabilizers, and take other steps to ensure guests’ safety and comfort as much as possible until the severe weather passes.

A senior enlisted Navy servicemember has been convicted of attempted espionage for delivering classified information to a foreign government, the Naval Criminal Investigative Service said Friday. In January, Chief Fire Controlman (Aegis) Bryce Steven Pedicini was charged with multiple counts of attempted espionage for mishandling or disclosing classified information. Pedicini was a former destroyer crewmember who worked on the Aegis system, the Navy's integrated radar and weapons control platform. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has warned that cruising right now carries a risk of getting and spreading the virus, regardless of vaccination status. According to Cruise Industry News, all passengers on the Gem will receive a full refund. "I really can’t imagine four more sea days back to back without much to do,” she said, calling it "extremely unsettling."

She went on to say that the only time passengers heard from the captain was in the afternoon, when he told them the crew was experienced and would do everything they could to minimize discomfort. Some passengers and crew members needed “minor assistance” from medical staff, a Carnival cruise spokesman told CBS News. Over the weekend, the East Coast was pounded by severe weather, resulting in gale-force winds, heavy rains and flooding. By mid-day Sunday, Charleston received nearly four inches of rain and the tide gauge reached over nine feet. It was the last thing Carnival Sunshine passengers expected when they returned to the Port of Charleston on Monday afternoon. Passengers had just endured a rocky cruise to the Bahamas only to come to a flooded parking lot and their cars ruined.

This one sailing of Serenade of the Seas is an epic voyage, a total of 274 nights. The ship departed Miami, Florida on Sunday, December 10, 2023, and will not return until September 10, 2024. Royal Caribbean's Ultimate World Cruise is having some flooding issues due to severe weather and wind-driven rain. As the system moved up toward the Carolina coast, gale and high seas warnings were issued from Florida up to Virginia, and Carnival Sunshine endured some of those effects as it waited to get into port. Onboard activities are often adjusted as well to be sure crew members and entertainment performers are safe, and outer decks may be closed when winds are high.

Undoubtedly, interior measures will also be taken, such as squeegeeing the water back out to the deck and using industrial fans to quickly dry out carpeting. In that region, wind speeds over the past day have peaked at miles per hour (32-48 kilometers per hour), with gusts as high as 35 mph (56 kph). Combined with the ship’s motion, this could mean relative wind speeds of 60 mph (96 kph) or greater depending on wind direction and the ship’s heading. Videos from the much-talked-about Ultimate World Cruise aboard Royal Caribbean’s Serenade of the Seas have shown massive flooding on Deck 12. Water has been streaming in from one side of the ship and flowing to the other, pooling in the corridor and so deep along the way that currents and ripples can be seen as loose debris floats away.

A total of 17 one-way cruises make up the Ultimate World Cruise, ranging from 9-28 nights. Passengers in public spaces reported bottles flying off shelves as the waves of more than 12 feet rocked the ship. He said he’s not going to let this experience stop him from going on future cruises.

Herold called her insurance provider who said they would set up the towing and a rental car so she could drive home to North Carolina. When Herold took an Uber to Enterprise, they told her they were out of cars and she had to wait a few hours until a car was available. She drove four hours in her new 2023 Kia Sportage from her home in Forest City, North Carolina, to Charleston for the cruise. “It was pretty upsetting and very overwhelming,” Kit Herold, a passenger who was onboard with her two teenage daughters, told USA TODAY. He said he's not going to let the frightening experience stop him from going on more cruises in the future. "We had a 40 foot wave hit our side of the ship,.. we almost fell out the bed.. things were crashing all around us and the carpet on my side of the bed was soaked bc water came in thru our balcony door," Goodwin Sherbert wrote.
